"Free" Project

Friday night I stayed home and felt like getting stuff done!  First I finished tearing up all the tile in my closet, pulled up the track from the sliding door and started laying down tile that matched the rest of the bathroom.  I ran out of tile, and the old tiles had lost their stickiness so no pictures now but it's all looking good!  Next I decided to paint my front door!  The inside.   I had leftover paint from the cabinets and from my bedroom wall.  I went with the darker paint from the cabinets.

Awhile ago I also did a "YoungHouseLove" project: I painted my birdbath.  I used leftover paint from my bedroom, so this was another free project!

best picture I have of it right now (and sadly the snow is gone)

What free projects have you done?

Kitchen

I finally have uploaded pictures from my camera to the laptop!  I had to buy a usb drive that has a port for the card from my camera (sim card??)  So without further ado...the kitchen!

I painted the microwave cart as a test subject

I don't think I have a picture of the original hardware, it was a bronzey color.  I sprayed everything silver in the backyard.   goodness I LOVE spray paint :)

I love my kitchen so much!!!  Everything is styled a bit differently now, for example the microwave is now in the cart under the printer so I have more counter space.  I'm using my bread maker and crock-pot at least once a week so I needed more room; and really I don't use the microwave that often.

Changes

So the first thing I did when I moved in was to remove almost all of the bi-fold doors.  The second was to take out a shelf in the laundry room.

Yeah in those photos you can't see the former bi-folds, but they were there I promise!!.  Two were in front of the pantry area and one more where I was standing to take pictures.
Also my cats broke my camera a few years ago, so the before shots were taken with my underwater camera.  It takes wonderful pictures underwater, but not so great above.  I borrowed my mom's camera (really nice) for the after.

My next project was to paint my bedroom, but I only have one wall done right now so I'll share that later! I knew before I moved in that I would be painting my kitchen cabinets.  I just hate wood cabinets.  I figured I would paint them white; but somewhere along the way I thought of blue!  (probably from IKEA and pinterest)  So after a bit of pinterest searching I decided on two-tone cabinets.  Let me tell you I am in LOVE with my kitchen right now.  I mean the counters are ugly and the walls need painting but oh the cabinets....

.....and I forgot that I haven't uploaded pictures yet because my camera isn't connecting to my laptop....stay tuned.
But as you can see I did remove the door on the cabinet over the sink; that made it feel more open.  I also put that cherry tree sticker on the fridge the first day.

I have today off from work so I've got outside projects planned.  I'm spray painting my house numbers and mailbox, from black to silver. And painting my bird bath, an idea I got from the Young House Love book-free and easy! Then the big one...clearing out my front yard!  yikes!

What projects do you tackle on your days off?  or do you relax instead?

Upstairs

Wow, am I terrible at this blog thing!  I'm really enjoying my house, and have made lots of changes already.  But before we get there lets go back in time and vist the upstairs on the day I closed.

This is my bedroom, with wood paneling!  I love that door, it lets lots of light in during the day.  The ceiling fan was great during the summer.

My bathroom.  The doors straight ahead are for one of the master closets, the doors to the left are for a linen closet. The shower and toliet are to the left.  The counters though are really short, hip height on me (I'm 5'3"ish).
The above refrenced linen closet in my bathroom.
 The two other bedrooms

The upstairs bathroom, the shower curtain came with the house.

Thats the house!  Next up the changes I've made.

Here it is!

Here are some pictures of the house!  The camera I think is on it's last legs and it's a water camera that doesn't take great land pictures; a new camera is on the list but so are other more important things...

Fron yard-I have so many great plants out front!  On the right side are roses and a butterfly bush.  We've seen lots of birds, butterflys, and even a hummingbird.

The dining room in the front- it will also be used as a sewing room, no major plans here

looking down the hall towards the family room

I love the mirror in the hall bath!  I will probably paint it and also replace the towel bar

looking through the laundry room to the kitchen

The bifold doors are gone now, there was the one you see here and another next to it and then a third blocking the enterance from the hall to the laundry room.Sure it blocks the view of the laudry room, but they were also really hard to walk around when open.

Kitchen- I really really like the tile in the kitchen, I do not like the cabinets.  The plan is to paint the bottom cabinets a blue/greenish color and the uppers white or grey.  I would also in a few years like to take out part of that bare wall and add a lower cabinets and a counter there.

The living room, with a wonderful backyard view, the wall paper is coming down in the near future.  In a few years I want to open up the wall between the kitchen the and the living room.  I put some shelves up over the mirrors and they look a lot better, and the cats like sitting on the shelves and looking at themselves!

Two goldfish live here...

And that's the downstairs!  I'll post upstairs another day.

Home Sweet Home

I got a house!  I've been avoiding posting anything about it because I was afraid that of something falling through.  But I signed the papers 3 days ago, and it's all mine!!!

As soon as I figure out where my camera and camera cord are packed I will post pictures.  It's a three bedroom, two and half bath townhouse.  It was built in 1976 and as far as we can tell has only been owned by one other person.  The previous owner bought it when she was my age!

I have a lot of work to do to make this place my style.  A few things that stand out: a wall of mirrors with adjustable shelving and an outdoor pond with two goldfish. Both are staying, I mean really how often can you say your pet goldfish conveyed with house, but they need an update.

It's going to take me a few days to get everything unpacked and then I can start looking at paint colors (and wallpaper remover...)!

House Update...

Well my offer was turned down, a couple of weeks ago actually...  There was no counter-offer, it was just a big fat NO.  I'm not too upset though-after signing all the paperwork I prayed, basically I said "God, please don't let me do something stupid.  If that isn't the house for me please don't let this go through."  So I feel that rejection was a sign, it wasn't the house for me.

So I'm still looking, all the houses I looked at before have offers on them right now and nothing new has come on the market.  I believe my house is out there, I just have to wait a little bit longer.
